Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs on winning their first World Series in 108 years! You put on a show that certainly proved magical. Too bad I didn’t see the ending. I went to bed after you failed to score the runner from third in the top of the ninth with one out. I thought, the Indians are going to win, or you’re going into extra innings. You see, if I had stayed up, as much as I wanted to, I would have gotten less than the four hours of sleep I did get before having to get up for work. But I don’t believe that’s your fault, so enjoy your victory.
The fault lies with Major League Baseball, and the starting time of the nationally televised World Series was 8:00 pm EST. Why are you starting a game that, without rain delays and extra innings, will last three and a half hours, putting the finish time around 11:30 pm EST? How many kids on the east coast do you think stayed up to watch the finish of what in this case proved to be one of the best baseball games ever. Now add in the 17-minute rain delay and the extra innings. I don’t know what time it officially ended, but I’m sure it was after midnight. It’s ridiculous.
Start the game earlier. Who cares if some spoiled liberals in California miss the beginning? It’s the finish that counts. Start the game in order to maximize the number of people seeing the END of the game. Start the game at a decent time in order to maximize the number of people seeing “the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat”.
